There is also a way in which the label with his name functions as a compass. Fitting that after a life devoted to the music of others, the music would point back to him.The Sleevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14579637232357647366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094270667589289554.post-84799249161035598862023-07-13T09:23:38.461-07:002023-07-13T09:23:38.461-07:00I can't believe there are no comments.

I remember you from when Nick worked at Licorice Pizza.

I was pretty shocked to hear of his passing in 2012. He was my best friend in junior high school and early high school--a central figure in my life at that time. He was one of the few people who had the same odd sense of humor as me. We played in a band together for about a year. Unlike you though, I failed to maintain our friendship and even did quite a bit to damage it. No excuses for that, other than my own short-sightedness.

But I got back in touch with him in 2005 only to discover that his life had changed pretty drastically and not for the better. Thankfully, his enthusiasm for music, art, and poetry seemed to be intact, and he did pelt me with with a couple CD-Rs worth of the newest and coolest stuff he was into.

Then we fell out of touch again.

He passed just prior to our 30-year high school reunion--something he likely would not have attended anyway.

Estiv Warnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08318861062409229106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094270667589289554.post-64037465743619795852022-09-03T19:41:27.685-07:002022-09-03T19:41:27.685-07:00Dear Mr. Berman,
I just picked-up a copy of ...Dear Mr. Berman,

I just picked-up a copy of "Tosh." and I am having a marvelously good time reading it. It's very good for the soul. I also have a question, and I hope that I can somehow reach you this way. You write a little about Loree Foxx in chapter 2. And you mention there that Loree at some point moved to a "farm" in a desert town near Palm Springs. Do you recall the name of the town? Was it Joshua Tree, Ca? You write that she and apparently Donald had two lions and various other exotic animals on the property. I grew up in Joshua Tree (1960-1972), and my mother became friends with a couple in Joshua Tree who kept two lions and other animals. We did not have television, and my mother loved the Bolshoi Ballet. The couple invited my parents to watch a special program of the company at their home, and I (a small boy then) recall watching the ballet there --oddly enough I only remember that my mother and I were present, but others must have been there, too. In any case, I have a vague recollection that the woman's name was "Lorie Fox." I am curious if this could be your "Loree Foxx." No one in our little town knew anything at all about the couple, and they were known as "the Beatniks." But my mother as was always her way found very common ground with them and we would visit their home from time to time. Well, sorry for the long story if the names and lion ownership in the desert near Palms Springs turns out to be a very odd coincidence. Thanks so much for writing Tosh. I feel the band was mis-interpreted by time and critics. It's rare, for example, that you read about drummer B.J. Wilson' melodic approach to his instrument. I never get tired of his playing. Guitarist Robin Trower got big post-Procol, but his work in the first few albums is outstanding. I got to see the band once at the Hollywood Bowl (at their peak popularity) then on a 90s comeback tour. Anyway, thanks for this post. I love that album too and glad you have back-up copies !!!Jack Skelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15926799879522218475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094270667589289554.post-23370406857757602302021-03-03T10:36:29.510-08:002021-03-03T10:36:29.510-08:00Another beauty! I sort of gave up on him, but then he may come up with something great. I think his best work is when he's seriously collaborating with another artist/producer. Or when he's in a recording studio and not worried about the charts, etc. My favorite McCartney is still the work he did with his brother Mike in "McGear."Tosh Bermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01303116458264444064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9094270667589289554.post-45699426862161701682021-02-13T06:05:58.546-08:002021-02-13T06:05:58.546-08:00Thanks for this Tosh.
