As an one -off studio project, Leander and the Kink's manager of the late 60's got together to write, produce a single called "The Changing of the Guard." The lead singer is Robert Wace, the Manager of The Kinks. The video down below is Wace's voice but not his face or body. They found a good looking bloke on King's Road - and his moment of fame

Thanks you sdo much for this. I have been thinking over the Mike Leander sound for a while now, in particular that delayed double track drum sound or whatever the great secret is. It is a source and an after taste of the pre-glam stomp. Its origins are odd, Leander himself mentions Burundi Black, John Kongos and Exuma. Having been raised with an older brothers singles collection which held these gems, some Ginger Baker experimentation and the Birmingham jazz blues proto prog skinhead moonstomp glam which bore fruit with Slade, the sound on Rock and Roll Part Two intrigues me still. The first instrumental to break a vocal star.

Thanks for all the Boris Vian stuff as well. That whole club scene in St germain has been turning up in some psychogeographic readings I have made recently, especially where Iain Sinclair speaks of Orson Welles in Dublin and Paris.

Mike Leander is a name i have heard since forever, but know very little of him or his work - till recently. He also produced the original soundtrack to pr album of 'Jesus Christ Superstar!" Now that may be a good thing or a horrible thing!
That's true. He did do the strings for that one song by the Beatles. Which is unusual because I think George Martiin normally does all the string arrangements.

That's true. He did do the strings for that one song by the Beatles. Which is unusual because I think George Martiin normally does all the string arrangements.
