FYI The Velvet Underground played an assembly at Beverly High School in 1969 (3rd album period). My brother's yearbook has photos of Lou Reed on stage. I couldn't believe my eyes. My brother said the kids didn't really get it because they weren't "psychedelic" enough, haha.
