You're right about that, Tosh. Too much genius. Am still saddened that 'Confusion,' the film that would have united Ron & Russell Mael with M. Tati, never made it past the planning stage (nor do I believe were Sparks mentioned in David Bellos' Tati bio, curious).
"Confusion" in the hands of Tati with Sparks would have been fantastic. I can see it in my mind as a film. I've read Bellos fine book on Tati, and I think there is a photograph of Ron and Russell with Tati in the book - but it doesn't give them credit in the photo or in the text. Bellos probably doesn't know anything about 'pop' music or maybe blind to it. But I wonder where Tati first became aware of Sparks? Strange, but I find Sparks sort of the perfect music representation of Tati and his work.
